Rewarding Reading Training Courses
|
|
What can a public library do that is more important than promoting reading?
Whether for information or recreation, reading is the heart of library service. Why not emphasise its value?
|
REWARDING READING: do you have any more books like this? is an affordable, enjoyable, intensive,
experiential train-the-trainer workshop for readers’ advisers keen to raise their readers’ expectations of what a great library can deliver.
|
This practical course will equip participants to share their readers advisory knowledge with their work colleagues and assist them in
the delivery of reader development programs. It combines material on how to provide guidance to readers with exercises and tips for trainers. Pre-course
reading is provided and some pre-course preparation is expected of participants. Numbers in each workshop are usually limited to around 12 participants because of the style of teaching and the participative nature of the course. All participants receive a comprehensive Workbook including detailed Trainer's Notes.
|
| Delivered in a participative, inclusive style the two day course covers: |
|
Background to readers' advisory and reader development work in public libraries
The value of reading for both readers and libraries
Communicating with readers – appeal characteristics
Sharing the unique experience of reading - personal benefits of reading
Advising readers – listening and being heard
Conversations with readers – case studies
Readers' advisers' tips and tactics
Print and online information sources, tools and techniques
Promoting new skills and freshening library messages.
